My travels with Tommy, Jump Rope, Valentine's High School English Camp, and Hard Rock

Ok....so I just realized I went the entire month of February without posting anything. Sorry!! With Tommy visiting and so much going on, I just haven't really thought about it. I put up a ton of pics though. Again, if you've noticed a few of the pictures are duplicates from a previous blog, it's because that slideshow is connected to my myspace account. So, the pictures start with bowling. I went with a group of Japanese and foreign friends. We had a blast and I bowled a 129, my personal best. Since I normally bowl between a 50 and 80, I was thrilled! I hope we can all go bowling again soon!

Every year my school has a huge end of the year jump rope competition. Each class has 2 teams (a girls and boys team). All of the girls have to jump together. They are competing against the other girls to see who can jump the most times consecutively in 2 minutes. They then add the girls total and the boys total for each class. The kids get really excited about it. Japan has so many unique activities in the schools.

The next pictures are of Tommy's trip to Japan. I had such a hard time deciding which pictures to put up because we took over 300 and so many were really good. I'll probably print over a hundred of them and create a photo album for just his trip here. We spent his first night in Osaka and then headed for Hiroshima. Hiroshima is my favorite place so far. The city is beautiful and has such a great vibe to it. There is so much history there. Peace Memorial Park and the A-bomb Dome were stunning, despite their horrible past. The museum was hard to handle at times. There were so many pictures that were painful to look at. I definitely had to walk away from a few before I started crying too much. I could talk about Hirshima forever, but I'll move on. Miyajima Island is just off the coast of Hiroshima. The floating Tori Gates are famous. It is the 3rd most photographed place in all of Japan. The island also had a pagoda, shrine, and over a thousand deer that were overly friendly. If we had climbed the mountain, we would have seen the wild monkeys that live at the top. Guess that will have to wait till next time. We stayed in Hiroshima for a couple of days then headed back to Osaka. We decided just to relax and explore the city for the day. On Valentine's Day we went to Nagoya. We arrived in the city before the restaurant opened, so we went on a Ferris Wheel ride. It's one of those huge ones in the middle of the city, like in Paris. We then had dinner at Outback Steakhouse. In Japan, this is a huge treat! I even got to watch some of the probowl. Then we met my friend Erica and went to the Tool concert. For Tommy's last days we stayed in Ise. We visited the Ise Grand Shrine and national forest and went out to dinner and karaoke with my friends. I didn't get to do everything I planned with Tommy, but I hope he had a good time!

The next pictures are from a high school English camp I worked at the day Tommy left. Several JETs from the area volunteered to help out at the Valentine's themed class. These particular students are in a special English program, so they have incredible English ability. Each JET was assigned a team of about 5 students to work with. The teams competed in all kinds of competitions like singing English love songs, creating Valentine's poems and cards, etc. I got lucky and got an awesome group that ended up winning first prize. I think I had more fun than half of the students. I can't wait till the next camp, which is in June I think.

The last picture is of me with some friends eating dinner at Hard Rock Cafe in Nagoya. We went to celebrate Erica's birthday. I took the train into the city early and spent the afternoon walking around the city, shopping, and just exploring. I really enjoyed spending the afternoon alone. Then I met up with my friends, ate dinner, went to an English pub, then to a 4 story dance club. We stayed out late, ate breakfast at Denny's, and then caught the first morning train home. It's been a long time since I've stayed out that long and I was exhausted!

Ok, I know I kind of rushed through this blog. There was so much more I wanted to say, but I honestly just don't feel like typing anymore. I am really going to try to do better about updating more frequently so it doesn't seem like I have so many things to write about when I finally do write. Love you all!!!
